"The first official data on the population of Ploiesti, based on a general count of souls, refers to the year 1859, when the first census of the population of the two principalities, Muntenia and Moldova, was carried out. At this time, Ploesti City had 26,468 inhabitants. On the occasion of the next census, which took place at the end of 1899, that is, after 40 years, the population of Ploesti was 45,107 souls.
Between 1859-1899 no population census was carried out, only fiscal counters: in 1884, 1889 and 1894. The purpose of these counts was to establish the number of family heads and taxable persons; they neglected the non-taxable population. Results in a field other than the one we are interested in can not be taken into account.
At the census carried out in 1912, Ploesti had a population of 56,460 souls, and at 1930, the number of inhabitants was 77,341.
The data of the four censuses listed above shows that the number of inhabitants of Ploesti municipality has been steadily increasing, reaching 71 times the number of inhabitants from the first to the last census, to triple.
